O que você irá fazer

  • Operates to the best possible standards providing uninterrupted operation.
  • Monitors wastewater plant systems, ancillary equipment and the chemical composition of the influent, effluent and internal process streams; makes necessary adjustments to ensure operation is within established guidelines.
  • Responds to unscheduled equipment or process failures.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs in accordance with manufacturers specifications on all systems including belt press, blowers, pumps, valves and piping.
  • Willingness to carry a radio or pager for after hours call outs.
  • Collects and analyzes raw waste, performs chemical, biological and physical analysis and maintains a thorough knowledge of the composition of the influent, effluent and internal process streams.
  • Maintains cleanliness of wastewater plant.
  • Ensures efficient and economical operation of station wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Completes maintenance records; maintains laboratory and operating logbooks and databases as required.
  • Maintains control of plant tools, manuals, repair parts, assemblies and consumables.
  • Maintains inventory accuracy at 98% or better.
  • Works closely with and takes direction from the Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) and coordinates in ordering repair and/or spare parts, maintenance parts, assemblies and consumables.
  • Advises the Utilities Supervisor or their on-site representative of the status of wastewater treatment equipment and systems.
  • Works a rotating shift; day, swing or night shift.
  • Performs duties in support of division metrics (as provided by supervisor).
  • Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly affected by this positions work activities.
  • Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals.
  • Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate legal documentation.
  • Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments.
  • Evaluates job hazards and communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and/or daily crew meetings.
  • Interprets project tasking utilizing design drawings, specifications and diagrams.
  • Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their superiors and peers as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs.
  • This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.
  • May be required to work outside on various jobsites in extreme cold weather and environmentally challenging conditions.
  • Interacts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person.
  • Is kind, courteous, cooperative and professional at all times.
  • Participates in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses: Colorado Class D Certification (or other states equivalent) or relevant experience.
  • Expected Skills and Competencies: Mechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the maintenance and operation of activated sludge treatment plants is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to activated treatment plants is required.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment is required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Preferred: Colorado Class B Certification (or other states equivalent).
  • One year of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Plant operator.
  • Experience working in an Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Physical and/or Other Requirements: Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica.
  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer.
  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
  • Must participate in community programs, such as house-mouse (chores), daisy-picking (cleaning up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
