  • The backbone of these services is our in-house developed smart cash vaults in which we take great pride, and this is where the Cash Connect factory steps in.
  • Our factory is responsible for the research, design, development and manufacture of these smart cash vaults, including ongoing technical support to our operations team.
  • Job OverviewCash Connect is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated senior mechanical designer to lead our drawing office within the R&D department.
  • The ideal candidate will have a natural flair for mechanical design and be capable of out-of-the-box creative thinking, whilst still remaining detail oriented.
  • Finally, strong administrative and communication skills are a must.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to work under pressure to meet tight product development deadlines, be capable of multitasking and performing ongoing drawing office administrative duties throughout.
  • He/she will be responsible for the adherence of drawing office standards.
  • Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesReport to the product development manager.
  • Design and develop new products in coordination with the rest of the R&D team whilst keeping in mind the budget, timelines, and resources available.
  • Translate the product requirement briefings successfully from concept through to final product.
  • Adhere to Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles (DFMA).
  • Oversee the entire mechanical lifecycle of the product design process, from planning and design to testing and implementation.
  • Management and training of the junior designer, including delegating tasks and assigning workloads.
  • Assembly of prototypes, documentation of design bugs and the rectification thereof.
  • Ensure that production is assembling products to spec and issue the drawings and documentation required to support this.
  • Troubleshoot production problems and devise solutions to resolve them.
  • Provide technical support for the quality department and production team.
  • Design of jigs and tooling for production where required.
  • Perform regular supplier visits, aid with technical queries, and ensure that suppliers manufacture our components to specification.
  • Assist with building projects, factory upgrades and improvements, etc.
  • Use SolidWorks to design and develop mechanical systems, sheet metal and structural components.
  • Perform design calculations and stress analysis.
  • Creation of drawings packs and documentation for manufacturing.
  • Use of AutoCAD for factory floor layouts and factory planning.
  • Use of SolidWorks PDM software to maintain drawing office data, workflows, data cards, metadata, etc.
  • Perform maintenance of the drawing office folder structures, libraries, standards, etc.
  • Maintenance of all software, licensing, backups, PDM server, etc.
  • Qualifications, Experience & Requirements:A degree or diploma in mechanical engineering or similar would be beneficial, however if the candidate has the right proven experience and an impressive portfolio of drawings to show for, then this will be considered.
  • Min 8-10 years experience as a mechanical draughtsman / designer with proven experience in machine / product design and detailing of drawings.
  • Must have industry manufacturing experience and know how.
  • Must have extensive Microsoft Office and administrative experience.
  • Experience working with a product data management system is required.
  • Experience running a drawing office would be beneficial.
  • Must be of reasonable health and fitness.
  • Must reside in and around Durban and easily able to commute to and from work.
  • Relocations would be considered, but only as a last resort.
  • Behavioural and Technical skills:Must be highly technically astute.
  • Very good maths and analytical skills.
  • Must have excellent design skills.
  • Must have excellent drawing detailing skills.
  • Must be well versed in the use of SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Must be very detail orientated.
  • Good at sketching and visualizing.
  • Good at multitasking and prioritizing.
  • Must be organized and focused.
  • Must have a methodical approach to all tasks performed.
  • Must be a self-motivator, honest and hardworking.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a collaborator and have good people skills.
