Position OverviewThe Senior Data Engineer is a highly skilled technical expert in Snowflake development, responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing data solutions within Snowflake.
  • This individual has a strong background in SQL, a solid understanding of Snowflake Architecture, and at least basic experience or training with dbt Cloud.
  • The Senior Data Engineer will work on complex data engineering projects, deliver high-quality technical solutions, and provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers while adhering to best practices and performance standards.
  • Key ResponsibilitiesSolution Design and Implementation: Independently design and implement technical solutions for assigned tasks, ensuring they align with coding best practices and performance standards.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of Snowflake and SQL to develop scalable, efficient, and performant data pipelines and architectures.
  • Create performant solutions following Snowflake performance best practices, ensuring optimal use of resources and minimal processing time.
  • Leverage dbt Cloud for data transformations, ensuring robust and well-documented code.
  • Technical Expertise and Guidance: Act as a technical expert in Snowflake and dbt Cloud development, providing guidance and support to less experienced Data Engineers.
  • Mentor junior engineers, helping them develop technical skills, understand best practices, and gain familiarity with the company's infrastructure and data pipeline.
  • Answer technical questions and help solve problems faced by junior team members, ensuring consistency and quality in solutions.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in technical discussions, providing input on tickets, bugs, and proposed solutions.
  • Raise concerns and identify obstacles proactively, offering potential solutions to overcome them.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Data Engineer on technical implementations and escalated issues.
  • Clarify requirements and business-related questions with the Solution/Product Owner, ensuring alignment between technical solutions and business objectives.
  • Continuous Improvement and Best Practices: Follow and contribute to the development of internal coding best practices for data engineering solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with new Snowflake features, technologies, and industry trends, incorporating them into project work as appropriate.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve existing processes, workflows, and performance across the data pipeline.
  • Required Knowledge and SkillsIn-depth knowledge of Snowflake, SQL, and Git.
  • Basic experience with dbt Cloud or confirmed training in data transformations.
  • Solid understanding of Snowflake Architecture, including how to design and optimize data models.
  • Familiarity with agile implementation methods and project management tools such as Azure DevOps and Jira.
  • Ability to design efficient, scalable data pipelines and ensure the overall performance of the Snowflake environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions.
  • ExpectationsThe Senior Data Engineer is expected to meet the same core expectations as a Data Engineer, with added autonomy and responsibility for complex technical solutions.
  • Ability to resolve assigned tasks independently and deliver solutions within project timelines.
  • Proactively mentor and support less experienced Data Engineers, ensuring the team follows best practices.
  • Engage actively in technical discussions, sharing knowledge and insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Preferred Experience6+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on Snowflake and cloud-based data technologies.
  • Practical experience with dbt Cloud or equivalent data transformation tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Prior experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional team setting.
