O que você irá fazer

  • Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies and procedures.
  • Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
  • Provides uninterrupted medium voltage electrical service while operating to the highest standards.
  • Monitors Power Plant parameters and makes necessary adjustments to ensure operations are within established guidelines.
  • Monitors diesel engine/generators and associated switch gear parameters.
  • Monitors waste heat recovery system, wind turbine production and auxiliary equipment parameters.
  • Makes adjustments to diesel engine/generators and auxiliary systems to ensure Power Plant is operating with the highest level of efficiency and reliability possible.
  • Monitors and makes adjustments to power distribution system by adding and removing feeders as required.
  • Maintains operating logbooks and databases as required.
  • Starts, places in service and secures diesel generators as necessary.
  • Maintains identified operational hours spread of diesel engine/generators to better forecast maintenance.
  • Responds to unscheduled equipment failures with appropriate immediate and subsequent actions while on shift.
  • Assists the Power Plant Mechanic with scheduled maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintains cleanliness of Power Plant facilities including diesel engines.
  • Advises the Utilities Supervisor or their on-site representative of the status of power production equipment and systems.
  • Works a rotating shift; day, swing or night shift.
  • Trains Power Plant Operators on mechanical equipment as directed.
  • Complies with applicable Safety, Environment, Health, and Waste Management policies and procedures.
  • Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly affected by this positions work activities.
  • Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their superiors and peers as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs.
  • This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.
  • May be required to work outside on various jobsites in extreme cold weather and environmentally challenging conditions.
  • Interacts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person.
  • Is kind, courteous, cooperative and professional at all times.
  • Participates in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses: High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years Power Plant experience required (Diesel, Gas Turbine, Nuclear, Hydroelectric or Renewable).
  • Equivalent experience in diesel engine or electrical maintenance accepted in lieu of Power Plant experience.
  • Expected Skills and Competencies: Mechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once is required.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the operation of diesel electric generating equipment is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to diesel engines and diesel engine driven electric generators is required.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment is required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Preferred: High school graduate or GED.
  • Previous experience with remote Polar Logistics operations.
  • Diesel Power generation experience.
  • Strong background in diesel engine and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Physical and/or Other Requirements: Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica.
  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer.
  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
  • Must participate in community programs, such as house-mouse (chores), daisy-picking (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
