O que você irá fazer

  • Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies and procedures.
  • Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
  • Supervises the operation, preventive maintenance and repair of the main power plant generators, backup emergency generators, on-site high voltage switchgear systems, sea water desalinization and treatment system and the activated sludge wastewater treatment plant.
  • Initiates and closes work orders, establishes priorities and delegates assigned tasks.
  • Willingness to carry a radio or pager for after hours call-outs.
  • Completes maintenance records and documents all maintenance performed and maintains operating logbooks and databases as required.
  • Ensures, to the best possible standards, uninterrupted medium voltage electrical service, water supply, and proper operation of the wastewater treatment plant through planning, scheduling, materials take-offs, executing maintenance and supervision of plant operations.
  • Assures expedient response to unplanned power outages.
  • Advises the Utilities Supervisor of the status of power production equipment and systems.
  • Keeps the on-ice Facility Engineer advised of the status of power generating, water production and wastewater treatment equipment and systems.
  • Coordinates with the on-ice Facility Engineer on issues concerning power generation, water production and wastewater plant operation.
  • Coordinates with the Utilities Supervisor to order repair and/or spare parts, maintenance parts, assemblies, tools and consumables.
  • Maintains inventory to at least 95% accuracy.
  • Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly affected by this positions work activities.
  • Provides appropriate safety training to employees and documents the training.
  • Assists Utilities Supervisor in creating and monitoring annual budgets.
  • Recruits and recommends personnel.
  • Monitors employee performance.
  • Evaluates job hazards and communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and/or daily crew meetings.
  • Interprets project tasking utilizing design drawings, specifications and diagrams.
  • Handles confidential matters in accordance with management policy and with the highest degree of professionalism.
  • Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs.
  • May be required to work outside on various jobsites in extreme cold weather and environmentally challenging conditions.
  • Interacts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person.
  • Participates in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses: BA/BS required.
  • Equivalent relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience in operation and maintenance of diesel engine power plants is required.
  • Expected Skills and Competencies: Mechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the maintenance and repair of diesel electric generating equipment is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to diesel engines and diesel engine driven electric generators is required.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment is required.
  • Working comprehension of electrical distribution, control panels and medium voltage switchgear.
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel is required, high skill level is preferred.
  • Preferred: Previous experience with remote Polar Logistics operations is preferred.
  • Experience with desalinization plants and associated equipment, or wastewater treatment plants is preferred.
  • State issued licenses in water plants and/or wastewater treatment plants is preferred.
  • Physical and/or Other Requirements: Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica.
  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer.
  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out.
