  • The technician will perform surveying and mapping work, measuring and recording data on land, utilities, structures, roads, and other permanent features.
  • This position offers an opportunity to work on a variety of projects across the state, with occasional out-of-state travel for extended periods.
  • Position Responsibilities: Surveying and Data Collection: Visit project sites to take precise measurements and record survey data related to land, utilities, structures, and roads.
  • Perform conventional leveling surveys and assist with GPS data collection to determine elevations.

  • Data Processing: Import, store, and process surveying data collected in the field, and assist licensed surveyors in analyzing the data.
  • Take complete and accurate field notes and maintain organized field books.
  • Physical Labor and Fieldwork: Clear lines using a brusher or chain saw, swamping as needed (not a daily requirement unless assigned to range line projects).
  • Dig for boundary points, set rebar with a sledgehammer (weighing up to 8 lbs), and perform physical tasks that involve frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying.
  • Hike, climb, and balance in rough, uneven terrain for extended periods, often covering distances of 0.
  • 5 to 2 miles or more.
  • Frequently lift and carry 25-50 lbs of equipment such as scanners, stakes, nails, or rebar; occasionally required to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Work in remote areas with exposure to outdoor elements, including extreme temperatures, wildlife, and varying weather conditions (sun, rain, snow, wind).
  • Project Assistance: Assist surveyors in collecting data for various surveys, including ALTA, topographic, boundary, and utility surveys.
  • Utilize GPS and robotic systems for data collection, perform 3-wire differential leveling, and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Desired Skills and Expertise: Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Outlook, Excel, Office, and Trimble Business Center.

  • Qualifications: Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs frequently, and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including standing, kneeling, bending, and hiking in rough terrain.
  • Technical Knowledge: Experience in surveying and mapping principles.
  • Familiarity with GPS and Trimble software (global positioning systems and Trimble Business center/Trimble access applications).
  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in surveying and mapping work (experience and education may be substituted for one another).
  • Other Requirements: Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Must obtain first aid and CPR certifications.
  • Frequent travel and ability to work in remote areas, with exposure to extreme weather conditions and challenging terrains.
  • Four 10-hour workdays per week, with potential for extended workweeks and out-of-state travel.
